Sat 17th February 2024 – Fruits of the Spirit: A Gathering Film (Q&A with Director Georgia Day) – Free event

La Charrette Cinema is excited to host The Gathering, an inclusive church based in Cardiff, for a screening of their short film Fruits of the Spirit, with a Q&A with director and screenwriter Georgia Day!

“While Fruits of the Spirit is not a biographical story, it is a very personal one for many of us. Most of us [at the Gathering] have felt the sting of rejection from various churches, and, having found loving community now, wanted to show that it was possible. This film celebrates queerness as a beautiful, tender, and holy thing something that still needs to be said to whoever will listen.”

Made by in partnership with Iris Outreach – the community engagement arm of Iris Prize Film Festival, a prestigious and global LGBTQ+ film festival.

La Charrette – The Smallest Cinema in Wales

La Charrette was built in the 1950s by Gwyn Phillips as a village cinema for Gorseinon near Swansea. Constructed from a 1920s GWR railway carriage the Cinema can accommodate 23 people and was a popular venue for over 50 years until it became beyond economic repair. However in 2008 the Heritage Centre worked with Mark Kermode from the BBC’s The Culture show to rescue the building and bring it to the Centre for restoration and reuse as a private party venue. see La Charrette – Wikipedia

We have recently carried out further repairs to the interior and will be re-opening in September 2023. Bring your own DVD (Standard or Blu Ray) or USB Stick and enjoy a party for up to 20 people at our private cinema. The red carpet will be rolled out and you can also bring your own food & drinks.
