‘Ty Bach’ is an early example of a flushing toilet – quite a luxury for the millers! It is probably the smallest listed building in Wales. Have a look inside but please don’t use!
The flushing mechanism was controlled by use of a sluice gate (situated outside the toilet). It is not in use today although the mechanism still works perfectly.
The Water Turbine
Can you spot the 1912 Armfield Pelton wheel turbine in the channel below Ty Bach? It draws water through a large pipe from the sluice gate. This could generate enough electricity to power a small drill or other equipment.
