ST DWYNWENS WEEKEND

Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th January

Love will be in the air at the Gower Heritage Centre this weekend when we celebrate the life and times of the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers. Activities will include a family friendly re-enactment of St Dwynwen's life which, in true panto fashion, will feature a heroine and a wicked father who plots to rid her of her love. The story will be followed by games and challenges, along with a Hunt the Love Spoon quiz with clues to the love tokens whereabouts hidden around the centre, and a treasure hunt — with a romantic twist — with St Dwynwen herself.

PIRATE WEEK

Saturday 18th to Sunday 26th February

Come aboard for a swashbuckling event! Leave the scurvy landlubbers behind and set Course for a fun-filled week of pirate-themed events at The Gower Heritage Centre!

Take to the seas of your imagination in our inter-active stories, but beware Davy Jones locker. train to be a Pirate. Or maybe ye can find yourself a spot of treasure in our treasure hunts.

With gold panning, bouncy castle, craft activities and swashbuckling movies held in Wales' smallest cinema, La Charrette and of course the oppertunity to cross swords with infamous Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Charlotte Duberry!

This is one only to miss if ye have been swallowed by a Whale!

Standard entrance fee applies.

APRIL

 

EASTER FUN

Saturday 8th to Sunday 23rd April

10.00am to 5.30pm

Follow the White Rabbit to The Gower Heritage Wonderland, for a most important date! Meet Alice, the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit (our special Easter Bunny) and join in with a whole host of egg-tivities! Don a pair of Bunny ears for the egg and spoon races and even the spoon, tea cup, tea spoon and egg races!!

Bounce along in our Great Bunny Sack Race! And if after all that you need a drink, then there is always time for tea, and you can have tea and lots of fun at The Maddest Mad Hatters tea party you will ever attend, with stories and games galore!

There is even a Mad-Hatters hat competition, so bring your Easter Bonnets and Mad Hat's for our Mad-Hatters Hat Parade, if you didn't bring your own do not despair, you can make one in our craft room (additional charge applies) along with a whole host of other Easter crafts!!

You can even follow Alice on a special egg-tastic treasure hunt. There are also animal handling and feeding sessions with our animal carers, and our speacial Easter Quiz to find all of our naughty run away rabbits and win a prize. So hop along and have a very merry day of Easter Madness!

You may need to bring your pyjamas as you will be 'egg'hausted by the end of your visit!

MAY

CHEESE & CIDER FESTIVAL

Love cheese? Love cider? Then the Cheese & Cider weekend is the food festival for you! From Saturday 6th May to Sunday 7th May 2017, the Welsh Cheese and Cider Festival will be taking over Gower Heritage Centre, offering visitors a wide selection of locally produced, award-winning cheeses, ciders and perries from Wales. Back for the seventh year, this tasty festival is set to be bigger and better than ever.

As well as being able to sample and enjoy some of the best cheese and cider that Wales has to offer, visitors will be able to browse through stalls of local produce. There will be a variety of ciders to sample, including Gower’s own Mill House cider, as well as a traditional 1890s travelling cider press – keep an eye out for the apple press demonstrations.

Throughout the weekend you can look forward to various stalls . The Mill Tearooms will be serving a wide range of Welsh classics such as the ever-popular Welsh cream tea, available all day. A bar and barbecue will also be available, so whatever you fancy, you’re sure to find something superb to indulge in.

There’ll be live music and open mic sessions over the weekend, as well as plenty of demonstrations including those from blacksmiths and glass blowers. Visitors old and young are sure to enjoy the Punch & Judy puppet shows and animal feeding sessions. If you’re feeling really creative, why not take part in a craft workshop? Throw a pot on a pottery wheel or make a hand puppet to take home with you.

GOWER GOOD FOOD FESTIVAL

Sunday 28th & Monday 29th May

The Gower Heritage Centre has been holding successful foodie events for years now, and the Gower Good Food Festival is no exception. Back for its third year, the festival is back by popular demand, and this year will be held from Sunday 28th May to Monday 29th May. The event will play host to some of the area’s very best local producers, giving them the chance to showcase their delicious homemade produce.

Foodies won’t want to miss out on the chance to sample the local wares.

It’s not all just about sampling tasty food though, as the organisers have also lined up an array of activities to take part in, including guided tours of the mill and animal feeding sessions – the latter of which is sure to appeal to the youngest of visitors. There’s something for everyone at this family-friendly event, even blacksmith and glass blowing demonstrations and the chance to get crafty in workshops for pottery and making hand-puppets. For some retro fun, keep an eye out for Punch & Judy shows.

COUNTRY GAMES DAY

No games Consoles or televisions here! Country Games day is packed full to the brim with traditional country games. Ranging from contorting your face in our gurning competition to the messy game of inky pinky. Traditional tales Molly Whuppie and Young Kate will be brought to life in our Inter-active storytelling sessions. Puppet shows with Punch and Judy and hunt for Will the Mills hidden brandy! Holiday fun.

Come rain or shine The Gower Heritage Centre will brings you all the fun of the beach. Meet Miranda the Mermaid and take an adventure in your imagination in our inter-active stories from the deep, with games, challenges and lots of activities along the way.

Its a fabulous day of fun for whole family to enjoy, including Free Bouncy Castle, Traditional Punch & Judy puppet shows, Sandcastle competitions, Limbo competitions, Beach themed crafts, Cartoons in Wales' smallest cinema La Charrette Quizzes and much much more! So put on your best pair of shades, grab a bucket and spade and make your way to Gower Heritage centre today!

MEDIEVAL FUN WEEK

Travel back in time at The Gower Heritage Centre today and experience a day of Medieval Madness, where we will be putting the Gory back into the Gower, and having a whole lot of old fashioned fun! There will be lots to do for the whole family. Did you know that Mice were put on trial? We do and you can find out why and much much more about the mad medievals on our mad-capped medeival quiz.

Meet the Lady Elizabeth, Hiss, boo and cheer in our inter-active tales straight out of medieval legend, including the famous Robyn the Hood. Dare to join in with our Great Crime and Punishment quiz, beset with all sorts of Gory challenges along the way. With Knights training, dragon slaying, and fancy dress, there are many chances for you to have a legendary day of fun and to win special favour's (prizes) from reception.

The annual Gower Bluegrass Festival attracts many bluegrass musicians from the South Wales area and also from further afield across the Severn Bridge.Open picking sessions and instrumental workshops.

GOWER CIDER FESTIVAL

The Gower Cider Festival offers visitors a wide selection of locally produced, award winning cheese, cider and perry from Wales. There will also be stalls.Visitors will be able to sample and enjoy some of the best cider Wales has to offer. There will also be a great variety of ciders such as our very own Gower produced cider called the Mill House cider along with many more. There will also be advice on how to make apple juice or cider and there will be a traditional 1890s travelling cider press on site with apple press demonstrations taking place. There will also be a Gower roast and BBQ along with the Mill Tearooms serving a wide range of welsh classics; and not forgetting the popular Welsh Cream Tea, which will be served all day.

We at the Gower Heritage Centre love Halloween so much that we have decided to dedicate the whole Half Term week to it! Join us from 10am - 5:30pm daily where you can enjoy a fun filled day of spooky activities! Join Magenta the witch at school for spooks for all things that go bump in the night!

There's plenty to learn about magic and mystery and how to give a good fright! Can you handle the pace of a broomstick race or become the scary monster under the bed? Then join us at the school of spooks, but be careful not to lose your head.. Pumpkin carving, Spooky Pottery & Craft activities, colouring competitions, quizzes and lots more..
