Situated in one of our workshops, this exhibition will provide you with some interesting facts and pictures of the effects of climate change May MAY DAY weekend FUN! AT THE GOWER HERITAGE CENTRE Saturday 1st - Monday 3RD OF MAY 2010 Have you ever played INKY PINKY, DUCKSTONE or NINE MANS MORRIS? These Traditional games will be recreated at a special family fun day at the Gower Heritage Centre There will also be a May Day Colouring Competition, Puppet shows, pottery workshops, jewellery making and horseshoe hunts! Let us show you how to entertain your kids using some old fashioned mayday games. You will be amazed at how much you can enjoy yourself without having to use a computer game console! Visit our animals and see our horses, goats, rabbits, chickens, ducks guinea pigs, geese other animals. Relax with a coffee while the children enjoy our soft play, adventure play area, sandpit, tractor area and our traditional games arcade. Welsh Cheese & Cider Festival Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of May Come and try some of the best Welsh cheese and cider Wales has to offer! Featuring award winning cheeses and cider. Live music from the Ian James Band, Busketeers and Lazarus & The Lambs. There will traditional cider press demonstrations, a tug of war! (book in your team )and also bar and bbq will be open providing tasty Welsh lamb and beef burgers . Saturday 29th - Circus Skills workshop - 11am - 4pm Have a go at some circus skills including plate spinning, juggling and more! All activities included in entry fee except for pottery and puppet making workshops which start from £2. June Friday 11th - Sunday 13th - Gower Folk Festival - 11am - 11pm The Centre welcomes the Gower Folk Festival back for its 17th year. Featuring headliners, Spiers and Boden who are the front men of BBC favourites Bellowhead. With yet another great line-up of the best in folk music around, including Calan, Climax Ceilidh band and Kerfuffle. Prices start from £6.50 per adult and £5.00 per concession/child. Saturday 19th - 20th - Coracle fishing weekend - 11am - 3pm See this old boat being put through its paces. Watch fishing displays and even have a go yourself. This weekend the Gower Heritage Centre is putting a unique Welsh boat, the coracle through its paces. These boats were once widely used on all Welsh rivers but today fishing is restricted to three rivers - the south-western rivers of the Teifi, Twyi, and Taf. The Mill is offering visitors the chance to see demonstrations of the fishing boat as it was traditionally used. Learn about the history of the coracle and the story Prince Madoc and his brave trip across the Atlantic. All activities included in entry fee except for pottery and puppet making workshops which start from £2 July Gower Rock Festival 2010 Friday July 23rd - Saturday July 24th At The Gower Heritage Centre 11am -11pm The Gower Rock Festival returns for its 3rd year with yet another great line up of local and national bands boasting a variety of genres from rock to ska and funk to indie! This years line up includes headliners El Goodo and Cartoon Violence .Cardiff based El Goodo have just been featured on many radio sessions including the radio 2 show Radcliffe and Maconie as well as BBC 6 music. After being discovered by Super Furry Animals Gruff Rhys. The band are now on top form and ready to blow your mind with their superb psych - rock . Other bands performing include The Keys ,Gecko,Dufraine,Hurricane Joe,Ringolevio, Hadron Collider, The Heretics,Mook,Nucleus,The Bleeding Noses, The Magpies, Chineapple Punks, Rugfire, The ripping Cones, Weird Naked Indian, Adam Avit and Galanastra. Wednesday 28th - Ghost Hunt - 6:30pm - 9:30pm Become a ghost buster for the night as you join in the search for the Mill's resident ghosts. The old Watermill at the Gower Heritage Centre has been the sight of many reported sightings of ghosts down the years. Visitors to the centre will be given a chance to do their own ghost busting! August Wednesday 4th - Medieval fun day - 11am - 5pm Fun and games for the whole family; meet a medieval knight, learn about medieval cures . Slay a dragon - Around the centre people have noticed dragons lurking...... Using your knight skills, we challlenge you to hunt and slay a dragon! You will be rewarded kindly for your efforts.Medieval Armour Display including a full suit of armour! Activities also include: a medieval fancy dress competition and learn about medieval medicinal cures. At the end of the day children will get a chance to dual like knights of olde. The day will be suitable for the whole family and normal entry charges apply. Free entry for season ticket holders. Visitors can also go on a treasure hunt to find the hidden brandy of Mr Will The Mill the former owner of the Watermill at the Heritage Centre who was reputed to hide smuggled brandy in his Mill to supply the local village. Oh yes and Inky Pinky - well that involves a lot of egg smashing - and Duckstone - this is Gower's version of the French game of Boules - and if your going Gurning you must bring your camera!! September Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th - Gower Bluegrass Festival - 12 noon - 12am Roots and Galoots host a great line up of Bluegrass music with a dance night on the Friday night.In addition to last year, we have added a second day to the festival with a dance night taking place on the Friday. Over the weekend, the festival will bring you some of the best bluegrass and country music around with a full line up to be announced soon. We will also be doing workshops on the fiddle, banjo, mandolin and dobro, hosted by Roots and Galoots. Saturday 18th - Beachwatch - Three Cliffs Bay - 11am Looking after you local environment Please help us in our mission to clean up Three Cliffs Bay. Prizes available for most unique pieces of rubbish recovered! Refreshments will be available throughout the day in our tearooms. Meet at the reception to the Gower Heritage Centre at 11am. Free parking available for all litter pickers October Saturday 16th - Sunday 17th - Cider Weekend - 11am - 6pm Join us for our annual cider festival, with live music throughout the weekend. Over the weekend we will be producing our own cider using a traditional 17th century cider press, we will be giving demonstrations and taster sessions over the two days. The event will have a cider bar serving a selection of guest ciders from around the country, also a bar serving lagers and ales. All activities included in entry fee except for pottery and puppet making workshops which start from £2 Friday 29th - Sunday 31st - Halloween party nights - 6pm - 9pm Due to last years 'spooky' success the Gower Heritage Centre is inviting all ghosts, ghouls, witches and their ilk to join in with their Halloween festivities. There will be lots to do including a spooky disco, apple bobbing, swamp dip, broomstick races, puppet making, pottery workshops, witches trials, meet our special guests and lots more. You may even be one of the lucky few who discover the Mill's resident ghosts. Don't forget to don your finest Halloween costume as there will be prizes for the best dressed children and adults.
