Key Stage One & Key Stage Two
The Heritage Centre is a brilliant resource to use with primary children
and can be exploited in so many different ways. We offer visits with
a Guided Tour of the watermill, showing how corn is ground into flour
and how the power of the water was also used to work the sawmill, enabling
the craftsman to make planks, turned furniture and even coffins! The
blacksmith also had his forge here, so the children can see the full
range of traditional crafts that have been at the centre of daily life
for many centuries. We offer several “Living History” workshops,
which are fantastic for bringing a subject to life: Wartime Gower, Medieval
life, Romans & Celts. These workshops are led by a fully trained
costumed performer and we are happy to help you to exploit the session
as much as possible by advising on costumes and preparatory or follow-up
work. We offer Guided Walks with a fully qualified B.E.L.A. guide, to
places such as Pennard Castle, Three Cliffs Bay or the Neolithic burial
chamber of Green Cwm. As the Heritage Centre is home to various craftspeople,
we also offer Craft Workshops in a variety of media: pottery, puppetry
and mosaic making to name but a few. Please see the downloadable pack
for full details of what is on offer or give us a call to check availability.
